Project 1. Documentary filmThis important not-for-profit educational documentary produced by Griffith University in conjunction with South Pacific Films investigates coastal processes in Coolangatta Bay and examines options to improve the surfing amenity at Kirra. The documentary describes: the history of surfing on the southern Gold Coast; illustrates Kirra’s role in world surfing culture; examines the economic contribution of surfing to the Gold Coast; describes the decline of surf at Kirra and the Griffith University investigation into options to improve surf quality; and the importance of surfing in society today. The documentary includes classic footage and interviews including: Wayne ‘Rabbit’ Bartholomew, Wayne Deane, Kelly Slater, Tom Carroll, Occy, Joel Parkinson, Mick Fanning, Dean Morrison, Martin Potter, Surfrider Foundation, Coastal Alliance, Surfing Australia, Surfing Queensland, coastal scientists, business owners, local surfers, politicians and government officials. The Kirra Business Group recently put on a fundraising dinner and art auction that enabled us to raise enough funds to complete the documentary. We hope to complete the documentary in May. Plans for release and distribution are still being finalised. What can you do:If you have access to: 1. Classic or current film; or
